Acquisition of media
The library's media holdings and digital resources must primarily reflect the teaching and research conducted at Karlstad University. Within the framework of the allocated budget, the information needs of both researchers and students should be met as quickly and efficiently as possible.
Our primary target groups are students, researchers and other staff at Karlstad University, but the general public is also welcome.
User-driven acquisition
Acquisition of all types of material shouldt be demand-driven as far as possible. This is partly done by monitoring course literature lists, but also by taking into account incoming purchase proposals and interlibrary loan orders from our users.
Electronic versions are given priority
Electronic versions of both journals and books are preferred as these can be acquired and provided quickly. They increase accessibility as they can be used around the clock regardless of location. However, availability and price may mean that printed material must still be acquired. For more information on how different types of media are acquired, see the library's media supply policy (swedish language only).
Interlibrary loans
Interlibrary loans from other libraries are also seen as a complement to acquisitions, and all orders received are also assessed as purchase proposals based on relevance, availability and budget. The interlibrary loan service is aimed at those who study, research or work at Karlstad University. Even you who are a student at another university but also a borrower with us can order an interlibrary loan.
The public is referred to the nearest municipal library.
Open Access
The library actively supports the transition to open publishing by largely participating in agreements via the Swedish Bibsam consortium. Openly available material that is deemed relevant to our users is primarily made available via the library's discovery system or via subject guides.
Gifts
Gifts are only accepted after an objective assessment of the material's relevance and on the condition that the library can freely dispose of the material. Contact Anna-Britta Nilsson for more information.
Our suppliers
Karlstad University calls off the government's framework agreements for literature and therefore deals primarily through these suppliers.
Subscriptions to e-resources primarily take place through participation in consortia which are mainly administered by the Royal Library. In addition, own agreements are also concluded with special suppliers.
