Biografi

Born and raised in Taiwan, I moved to USA at a young age, studied and worked there for many years. A prize winner of the Leschetizky and Robert Casadesus International Piano Competitions, I have performed solo recitals at venues including Weill Recital Hall in New York City, Tsuda Hall and Itzumi Hall in Tokyo. I was hailed as a pianist with “lovely, veiled, intimate voice and sharp-honed rhythmic sense…her playing was superb in imaginative grasp and execution.” by the Boston Globe, and “superbly equipped performer with strong statement of considerable musical stature.” by the New York Concert Review.

An active chamber musician, I have collaborated with such artists as violinists Miriam Fried, Matsuko Ushioda, cellists Laurence Lesser, Gavriel Lipkind, Bong Ihn Koh, and members of Kuss String Quartet, Avalon String Quartet and Jupiter String Quartet. I have worked as a collaborative pianist at New England Conservatory of Music, North Carolina School for the Arts, Aspen Music Festival, and Meadowmount School for Strings in USA. I was a guest artist at the Pacific Music Festival in Japan to perform recitals and chamber music concerts. My chamber music concerts have taken me to venues such as  Cleveland Museum of Art, Montgomery Museum of Art in Alabama, Jordan Hall and Isabelle Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston, USA, Festival Internacional Encuentros in Argentina, Gwanju Arts Festival, Kumho Art Hall and LG Arts Center in South Korea, Banff Center for the Arts in Alberta, Canada, Casals Hall and Tsuda Hall in Tokyo, Kitari Hall in Sapporo, Japan, Shanghai Conservatory of Music in China, and Hanoi Conservatory of Music in Vietnam.

I received a Doctoral degree in Collaborative Piano from New England Conservatory of Music, a Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees in Solo Piano and Collaborative Piano from Cleveland Institute of Music in USA. My principal teachers included Irma Vallecillo, Patricia Zander, Paul Schenly, Anne Epperson, Sergei Babayan and Vitya Vronsky-Babin.

When I am away from music, my husband and I often go on motorcycle rides, spend time with our horse, Faxi, or fixing our old farm in Wärmskog.

Undervisning

I am a dedicated educator and have taught at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (2004-08) and New England Conservatory of Music (1998-2006) in USA, and the Graduate Institute of Collaborative Piano at Tainan National University of the Arts (2011-14)  in Taiwan. I have also given master classes in USA, Japan, South Korea and Taiwan.

I have a deep passion for teaching because I find it most inspiring to see students developing into integrated artists with discipline, creative ideas and individuality. My teaching experience has taught me to stress three important and fundamental issues to all of my students: good quality of sound, strong rhythmic structure and intelligent practice. To see them going through this process of learning to become more independent thinkers with a sense of purpose, accomplishment, and a deep appreciation for the arts is the most satisfying achievement for me as a teacher.
