National and International Perspectives on Organizations
15.0 ECTS creditsThe working life is undergoing radical changes as an effect of the increased globalization and knowledge has therefore gained an increasingly more important role as a factor of production. This course studies the organization of production- and service processes (production system) nationally and internationally. Different organizational models are problematized from the perspectives of economic efficiency and social sustainability, both for companies/organizations and individuals. Questions raised during the course include:
- Which are the existing organizational models and how are they related to efficiency and social sustainability? What are the consequences for work and its organization?
- What is the significance of knowledge as a production factor in selecting and applying organizational models?
- How do different organizational models spread?
- Why do some companies/organizations adopt certain models but not others?
- How do companies/organizations apply different organizational models locally and nationally, and what influences this application?
- What are the effects of different organizational models and their concrete implementation on companies and employees?
Instruction is usually in the form of lectures, classes, seminars, laboratory assignments, and croup exercises.
The course is a collaboration with the University of Borås, University of Gothenburg, and Halmstad University, which means that some lectures and seminars might be located outside Karlstad. In addition, part of the course may be in the form of distance learning.
