Musical knowledge I, Western classical music
7.5 ECTS creditsThe history of Western classical music from Antiquity to the Baroque is discussed, along with analysis of and exercises in ear training, rhythmics, harmonics and harmonic progression in Western tonal music as well as instrument knowledge and instrumentation. Simple solo pieces, scales, and cadences are played on the piano. Students reflect upon the tradition, aesthetics, and function of music in society, different approaches to music conventions, and the importance of ear training and theory study to their own musical development.
