Scientific Applications within the Research Fields of Psychology
30.0 ECTS creditsThe course comprises two modules.
Module 1 - Research Approaches and Methods in Psychology (15 credits)
In this module, the focus is on developing an enhanced understanding of psychology as a distinctive discipline in a scientific context. With an understanding of the objectives and means of psychological research as a basis, formulation of research problems is linked to both qualitative and quantitative methods. The module provides an overview of different research approaches and methodologies. The course is based on problem-based learning (PBL) and consists of about 20 mandatory seminars.
Module 2 - Independent Empiricial Research (15 credits)
In this module, students plan and examine empirically a research problem relevant to psychological research. The empirical work should be rooted in and supported by psychological theory and research methodology, and the written paper should fulfil standard requirements for manuscripts prepared for submission to scientific journals. The topic of inquiry is selected in consultation with the supervisor. The paper is individual and can only have one author.
Supervision is only offered to students while the course is in progress. Students who fail to complete the project satisfactorily during this time may re-register at the next course opportunity. They will then be offered additional supervision to the extent made possible by available resources.
