Gisela Priebe

My research areas are:

-      Children and youth who grow up in families with mental illness, addiction and/or domestic violence

-      Abuse and neglect, especially sexual abuse, sexual exploitation and sexual harassment of both children and adults

-      Ethical aspects in research with children and youth who have been exposed to abuse and neglect

-      Mental wellbeing and socio-emotional development of gifted children and youth (see https://www.kau.se/en/gifteddp )

I am the director of the Centre for research on the mental health and life circumstances of children and youth, CBU, at Karlstad University (see https://www.kau.se/en/cbu )

My teaching is mainly related to the master programmes in psychology and third-cycle education.

My focus is on applied research which is often conducted in collaboration with healthcare providers, schools, social service or the civil society. 

Lic. psychologist and lic. psychotherapist with longstanding clinical experience.

2009 - doctoral thesis “Adolescents’ experiences of sexual abuse – Prevalence, abuse characteristics, disclosure, health and ethical aspects” (Child & Adolescent Psychiatry, Medical Faculty, Lund University, Sweden)

2011 - FAS Marie Curie International Postdoc Fellowship Programme, project ”Child victimization: Epidemiological studies about trends and new behaviors in internet-related abuse, revictimization-patterns and co-occurrence of different types of violence” at the Crimes Against Children Research Center, University of New Hampshire, USA.

2012 – 2015  Lecturer at the Department of Psychology, Linnæus University, Sweden 

2015 – 2021  Lecturer at the Department of Psychology, Lund University, Sweden

2016 – 2018  Guest lecturer at Barnafrid (20%), Linköping University, Sweden

Since 2021 and ongoing    Professor in psychology at the Department of Social and Psychological Studies and director at the Centre for research on the mental health and life circumstances of children and youth, CBU, Karlstad University, Sweden
