SI Scholarship Pioneering Women in STEM
The Swedish Institute Scholarship Pioneering Women in STEM is an academic scholarship open to female citizens from eligible and includes besides others full tuition fee coverage and a monthly stipend of SEK 12,000.

During the autumn 2024, the Swedish Institute (SI) launched a new scholarship – Pioneering Women in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics). Through the scholarship, SI aim to create a more diverse and equal STEM-field as well as develop a network of future global leaders that will contribute to the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and drive the development of their home countries forward.
It is a fully funded scholarship open to women from 10 countries in Africa and Asia, aimed at those ready to lead change, tackle global challenges, and develop lasting solutions.
Karlstad University is responsible for selecting scholars from applicants to its eligible master’s programmes.
At Karlstad University the eligible master’s programmes are:
- Master in Computer Science
- Master Programme in Biology: Ecology and Conservation Biology

Description and Criteria
Female citizens of the following countries are eligable to apply to the SI Scholarship Pioneering Women in STEM: Bangladesh, Indonesia, Kenya, Malaysia, Nigeria, Philippines, Rwanda, South Africa, Thailand, Vietnam.
- You must be a citizen of one of the eligible countries, however, you do not need to reside in the country at the time of the application.
- If you have dual citizenship and both are eligible for SI scholarship, you should choose only one citizenship when applying for the scholarship. Applicants who use their dual citizenship to submit more than one application will have all applications disqualified.
- If your country of citizenship is not listed below, we suggest that you apply for SI Scholarship for Global Professionals or look for other scholarships on Study in Sweden’s scholarship database.
- You are not eligible if you have a Swedish or EU/EEA citizenship*, a Swedish permanent residence permit or a temporary work- and residence permit based on work or on family ties with a citizen of Sweden/EU/EEA country who has a temporary or permanent right of residence in Sweden or have dual citizenship in countries not listed on the DAC list of ODA recipients 2025-2026.

Priority
In the scholarship selection process, priority will be given to students with outstanding academic performance and a demonstrated strong commitment to pursuing their studies at Karlstad University. Additionally, preference will be given to applicants who have completed their bachelor’s degree in their home country.
