Vargo has been presented the Informs Service Science 2017 Best Article Award. – The article uses institutional theory to explain why diversity is important for novel ideas. Anders Gustafsson, Professor of Business Administration at CTF, Service Research Center at Karlstad University, is the first European to be awarded the prestigious assignment as President of AMA Academic Council. Anders Gustafsson has been appointed President-Elect Designate of the AMA Academic Council. In this role, he is a member of the council's Executive Committee and is in line to serve as the first council president from outside of North America.

Sture Nöjd is a new PhD student in Psyhology at CTF. His research will focus on the development of digital tools and services based on the needs and possibilities that customers, patients, and citizens are experiencing, or could expect to experience in the future. Sture is a certified psychologist and graduated from Umeå Unviersity in 2000.

We are happy to welcome Dr. Jakob Trischler to CTF. Jakob recently joined CTF, Service Research Center at Karlstad University, as a postdoctoral researcher. Originally from Austria, he completed his undergraduate and postgraduate studies at the Management Center Innsbruck. After moving to Australia, Jakob completed his PhD at Southern Cross University in 2015.

On September 5-6 CTF gathered for the annual research meeting, this year held at Tanumstrand at the swedish west coast. What was on the agenda for the meeting? – We had two things on the agenda for our meeting, impact and applications. The theme for this year was impact, but not academic impact!

What is the first thing that comes to your mind when you think about the word ‘market’? Usually, everybody will have an idea of what a market is and can give a specific meaning for the word. However, if you look closer, these meanings and the assumptions connected to it can be very different from one another. This is true for both the “everyday” and “academic” use of the word.

Professor of Business Administration at CTF and Assistant Vice-Chancellor at Karlstad University. You just returned for Seoul, South Korea. What did you do there? – I was invited as keynote speaker at the International Research Symposium IRSSM 8th International Research Symposium in Service Management at Yonsei University. In my presentation I talked about how service innovations are created and what makes them grow in global markets.

The service research community received excellent news for its journals from the 2017 Journal Citation Reports (JCR) by Clarivate Analytics. All seven service research journals covered in Web of Science have increased their impact factors from the previous year. Especially notable is the increase of Journal of Service Research’s impact factor from 2.463 to 6.847.

Jenny Karlsson and Peter Samuelsson, both PhD students at CTF, Service Research Center at Karlstad University, Sweden, participated in the AMA Servsig doctoral consortium preceding the 2017 Frontiers in Service Conference held in June 21-22 at Fordham University, New York. We recently caught up with Jenny and Peter and asked them to tell us about the consortium. In this year´s AMA Servsig doctoral consortium a record was broken.

June 22-25 researchers from CTF participated in the 2017 Frontiers in Service Conference. The conference was hosted by Fordham University, Gabelli School of Business, New York, USA, and attracted more than 350 service researchers and business leaders from around the world. Every manager and every researcher need to understand the rapidly changing needs of customers.

On June 12-15 researchers from CTF, Service Research Center at Karlstad University, Sweden, gathered in Porto for the QUIS15 symposium. The symposium is held every other year and attracts around 250 leading researchers and executives from all over the world. CTF researchers Per Skålén, Carolina Camén and Bo Edvardsson participated in a workshop on Transformative service research.

This year, fifteen researchers will receive awards from Riksbankens Jubileumsfond, RJ, The Swedish Foundation for Humanities and Social Sciences, for full-time research up to one year.
